Human Miles

The rivers are raging with ice-cold water, the trails smell like earth and the rocks are weeping. The sun shines through the bare trees, and nature is waking up. I am waking up. I hope you are too!

I went for a run up to the top of a local mountain today and looked down on the valley where I live. After bushwacking and examining some track and sign of deer (acorn digs) and black bear (scat) I ran back down alongside the cliffs, caves, and boulders until I met the Saco. I stuck my face in the Saco and felt the water, which had just hours before been snowpack tucked away in the mountains. I am feeling so grateful for the spring.

Today I begin my spring mileage log.
